YouTube was founded on February 14, 2005, by Steve Chen, Chad Hurley, and Jawed Karim. The three founders were former employees of PayPal, and they had the idea to create a video-sharing website after they were unable to find a video of Janet Jackson’s wardrobe malfunction at the 2004 Super Bowl online.
YouTube was initially launched in beta in May 2005, and it quickly became popular. In December 2005, Google acquired YouTube for $1.65 billion. Since then, YouTube has grown into the world’s most popular video-sharing website, with billions of users watching millions of hours of video every day.
