Twitter announced on January 31, 2023 that it would be shutting down the CoTweets feature. The feature allowed two users to co-author a tweet, which would then appear on both of their profiles. However, the feature never really caught on, and Twitter said that it was “winding down” the feature. CoTweets will no longer be available after August 31, 2023.
There are a few reasons why CoTweets may not have been successful. First, it was a relatively new feature, and it may have taken some time for people to get used to it. Second, the feature was limited to a small number of users, which may have made it difficult for people to find other people to co-author tweets with. Finally, the feature may have been seen as unnecessary by some people, who felt that they could simply retweet or quote tweets from other users if they wanted to share them.
Despite the fact that CoTweets is being discontinued, Twitter is still experimenting with new features. In February 2023, the company announced that it would be testing a new feature called Text Attachments, which would allow users to attach text files to their tweets. It remains to be seen whether this new feature will be more successful than CoTweets.
