How do you make a YouTube video private?

There are two ways to make a YouTube video private:

  1. Before uploading: When you’re uploading a new video, you can choose to make it private right away. To do this, click the Visibility drop-down menu and select Private.
  2. After uploading: If you’ve already uploaded a video and you want to make it private, you can do so by following these steps:
    1. Go to your YouTube Studio.
    2. Click Videos in the left-hand menu.
    3. Find the video you want to make private and click the Edit button.
    4. In the Edit Details pop-up, click the Visibility drop-down menu and select Private.
    5. Click Save.

Once you’ve made a video private, only you and anyone you share the link with will be able to view it.

Here are some additional things to keep in mind about private videos:

  • They won’t show up in your channel’s search results or on your channel’s home page.
  • You can share them with specific people by sending them the link.
  • They will still be eligible for monetization, but only if you have at least 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 watch hours in the past 12 months.
  • They will still be subject to YouTube’s Community Guidelines.
