AlphaFold Foundation

The AlphaFold Foundation is a non-profit organization that was founded in 2021 to accelerate the development and use of AlphaFold and related technologies for the benefit of humanity. The Foundation is led by a Board of Directors that includes DeepMind co-founder Demis Hassabis, former President of the Royal Society Venki Ramakrishnan, and Nobel Laureate in Chemistry Frances Arnold.

The AlphaFold Foundation’s mission is to:

  • Make AlphaFold and related technologies available to the global scientific community
  • Promote the use of AlphaFold and related technologies for research and development in areas such as drug discovery, disease diagnosis, and food production
  • Support the development of new educational resources and tools to teach people about protein folding and the potential of AlphaFold

The AlphaFold Foundation has a number of initiatives underway to achieve its mission. These include:

  • Making AlphaFold available to the global scientific community through a free, open-source software platform
  • Funding research projects that use AlphaFold to advance our understanding of protein structure and function
  • Developing educational resources and tools to teach people about protein folding and the potential of AlphaFold

The AlphaFold Foundation is committed to making AlphaFold and related technologies available to everyone who can benefit from them. The Foundation believes that these technologies have the potential to revolutionize our understanding of biology and medicine, and to improve the lives of millions of people around the world.

Here are some of the potential benefits of AlphaFold and related technologies:

  • Improved drug discovery: AlphaFold can be used to predict the 3D structure of proteins, which is essential for understanding how they function and how they interact with other molecules. This information can be used to design new drugs that target specific proteins, which could lead to more effective and targeted treatments for a wide range of diseases.
  • Improved disease diagnosis: AlphaFold can also be used to identify proteins that are associated with disease. This information could be used to develop new diagnostic tests that can identify diseases earlier and more accurately.
  • Improved food production: AlphaFold can be used to improve the efficiency of food production by helping to identify new ways to grow crops and livestock. It can also be used to develop new food products that are more nutritious and sustainable.

The AlphaFold Foundation is a young organization, but it has already made significant progress in its mission to accelerate the development and use of AlphaFold and related technologies. The Foundation is committed to working with the global scientific community to make these technologies available to everyone who can benefit from them.
